Sometimes, our cities neglect the little things.
- Shade.
- Trash cans.
- Safe crossings.
- A place to sit.
There are thousands of bus stops in the city. Most of them are missing one or all of these basic amenities. So, we decided to do something about it.
In September of 2026, we deployed two benches at bus stops in Ukrainian Village: one at Damen Avenue and Thomas Street, and one at Division Street and Oakley Boulevard. We expected to get a few positive messages and an angry letter from the city. Instead, we received an outpouring of support, and even requests to put benches elsewhere in the city.
So far, the benches are still there.
We want to build more.
Building benches is something we have wanted to do for a long time. As soon as we are sure that the benches will not be destroyed by the city, we plan to build more, starting with bus stops on the northwest side where we can check on them often.
We can't do it alone.
